"Davao Central College Launches 'Basura ko, Linis ko' Campaign to Promote Cleanliness and Sustainable Waste Management"

Davao Central College (DCC) has recently launched an inspiring campaign called "Basura ko, Linis ko" at the DCC gymnasium on February 23, 2024. This proactive initiative aims to promote cleanliness and sustainable waste management among the students and staff, fostering a sense of responsibility towards proper waste disposal and environmental preservation.

The 'Basura ko, Linis ko' campaign at Davao Central College is about banning single-use plastics and encouraging students and staff to take responsibility for their trash and adopt eco-friendly practices. This campaign aims to create a culture of cleanliness and sustainability within the college premises, fostering a cleaner and greener campus that promotes a healthy learning environment. By instilling a sense of ownership and promoting eco-friendly practices, DCC aims to positively impact both the campus and the wider community.

During a discussion led by Princess Nilvie M. Purol from the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), several important topics related to waste and plastics were addressed. The representative highlighted the penalties, sanctions, Republic Acts, and policies in place to regulate and address issues surrounding waste management and plastic pollution. The discussion emphasized the need for proper waste management practices to minimize the negative impact on the environment. Ms. Princess Nilvie M. Purol mentioned that there are penalties and sanctions imposed on individuals and establishments that violate waste management regulations. These penalties may include fines, community service, or even legal action, depending on the severity of the offense.

Princess Nilvie M. Purol, the Information Education Assistant, expressed her enthusiastic support for the 'Basura ko, Linis ko' initiative, recognizing its potential to enhance the overall cleanliness and atmosphere of the school. Ms. Purol emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in creating a cleaner and more sustainable city. She highlighted the significance of taking personal responsibility for waste management and working together as a community to achieve a cleaner, greener, and more livable school environment. Ms. Purol's statement reflects the belief that by collectively embracing the initiative, positive change can be achieved for the benefit of everyone in the school community.

The "Basura ko, Linis ko" policy implemented by Davao Central College is playing a significant role in shaping a greener and more sustainable future. By taking the proactive step of banning single-use plastics and promoting eco-friendly alternatives, the college is empowering its students and staff to become advocates for a cleaner and healthier environment. By actively participating in this initiative, DCC is setting a positive example for other institutions and inspiring individuals to make sustainable choices in their daily lives. Many students have pledged to actively participate in the campaign and encourage their peers to adopt reusable alternatives. The overwhelming support from the DCC community demonstrates a collective desire to contribute to sustainability efforts and create a positive impact on the environment.

Through the "Basura ko, Linis ko" policy, Davao Central College is making a meaningful contribution to building a greener and more sustainable future. Together, we can make a difference by being responsible for our waste.  By taking responsibility for our own waste, we can contribute to creating a cleaner and more sustainable world. This can be achieved through simple actions like recycling, composting, and reducing the use of single-use plastics. By making conscious choices and adopting sustainable practices, we can make a positive impact on the environment and inspire others to do the same. Let's work together to be responsible for our waste and create a better future for our planet.
